Adam Mickiewicz was the main figure in Polish romanticism. Regarded as the national poet of Poland, he has been compared to Byron and Goethe. His most notable work is Dziady ("Forefathers' Eve"), combining folklore, mysticism and supernatural with history and strong feelings of Polishness and nationhood.
