Cats or dogs, it’s a well-known fact that pets can better-up the mood in any household.
Either we’re talking about a cat, dog, guinea pig, or even a plain fish, all pets have thisbenefit.
Although all pets should get credit for their hard work, this article will mainly focus on what benefits you would get from owning a cat.
Morning walks
You early risers that are probably reading this article will know what I’m talking about. Dogs require a daily walk for at least 15 minutes.
Not only they wake you up from an awful early hour, but you might be left with a surprise on your carpet if you don’t listen to their needs.
On the other side of the spectrum, cats do not need any walk, for they can easily go to a litterbox and are usually heavy sleepers, so there’s a bigger chance you wake them up from their sweet dreams, not them waking you.
The Biting Instinct
The fact that animals bite is well-known by now, but, comparing side by side, it’s safe to say that the “bite instinct” is way more present in a dog, mostly when you take food away from his mouth, or even when you take away his favorite toys.
On the other side of the problem, cats seem to just not care. They simply don’t care about it that much. You can probably get away with taking their food, scratching their tummy (where it’s known that will make them mad), and even hide their favorite toys.
They are really keen on sleeping and I think that makes it for the perfect pet.
“Hyperactive Syndrome”
Most people are fine with just stroking their pet and kissing them goodnight, but dogs not only need walks, as I previously mentioned, but also need a lot of activity during the day so they can sleep well at night.
They are as playful as you may think, but that could make up for a disadvantage in favor of the cats, because not everyone likes being so active while playing with their pets, and it can sometimes get exhausting.
Cats on the other side, sleep almost 13 hours a day, so try guessing if they will be any playful when they wake up. That’s right, they won’t.
The only “effort” that they do is snooze a few hours while purring and laying their paws back, which most cat owners find adorable.
The noise
It’s safe to say that cats are miles stealthier than dogs, because dogs need the feel to protect their homes, so either you live in an apartment, or even if you own a big house, they will still feel the need to bark as loud as they can to make sure that the possible “intruder” will get scared away.
This is a good thing overall but it can get bad if you live in a small apartment and especially if neighbors will be able to hear your dog’s barking, which could end up either in an argument with that certain neighbor, or even police implications on public disturbance.
Cats, on the other side, won’t even make a difference if it is you petting them or a complete stranger, and at night, it they are well-fed before their beauty-sleep, they won’t bother you at early hours like dogs will.
The Smell
If you’ve ever owned a cat, you might’ve seen that they have this good habit where they lick themselves in order to stay clean and prevent fur from dropping from their bodies.
They take care of themselves more than any dog could ever, so that makes us wonder:
Do dogs smell bad? – The short answer is no.
But dogs, on the other side require a periodical full bath, and a daily paw cleansing, because they do not have the habit of cleaning themselves like cats do, and some of them also smell because of certain health issues (Bichons for example).
So, it’s a safe bet that cats are indeed cleaner than dogs, they smell better, and are overall easier to take care of.
The conclusion of this article is obviously to do as your heart tells you, but to also keep in mind the advantages/disadvantages listed here and put them in correspondence with your preferences, but to also keep in mind the type of person you are and what makes you happy.
