5 cool movies and TV series that mentioned Romania

I think everyone has heard about a specific country or city in movies, TV series and shows. And the most famous ones are usually America, France, Great Britain, Japan, India, and the list can go on. For the cities as well. But has anyone heard about Romania? Well, I did. And not only a simple mention, but in many cases the actions or the whole experience were placed in Romania.

I will talk here about 5 of my favourite movies and TV series which mentioned Romania:

1. Wizards of Waverly Place

I remember how surprised I was when I heard Romania for the first time in a TV series. I know, at that moment it was dubbed, but when I searched that specific episode on the Internet, I found out that they were indeed talking about Romania.

I remember the episode was about Harper’s parents, who were entertainers and had to go to Romania to perform for a show. Her daughter refused to go with them, but her best friend, which is also the main character of the series, Alex Russo (the character was played by the famous artist, Selena Gomez) tried to go with Harper’s parents to Romania.

2. Liv&Maddie

Another old TV series which I was a big fan of, made a reference to Romania as well. In one of the episodes, Liv had to go to a place to film for a movie, but plans had changed and she had to fly to Romania in order to take the role in that specific movie.

Of course, this series was dubbed, like Wizards of Waverly Place, but this episode of Liv&Maddie was pretty obvious, especially because I remember how they said it: “R-R-R-R-R-Romania?!?”. I have no idea if it was said like that just for comic purposes or not, but it seemed pretty funny to me.

3. Total Drama presents: The Ridonculous Race

An animation that was absolutely insane, was a spin-off of the original animation Total Drama. I liked the original season, but after some time, it became weird and sometimes even boring, so I stopped watching it.

However, I knew from my brother who was still watching it, that in one episode of this TV animation was made a reference to Transylvania and especially to Dracula. Basically, in that episode, the groups had to go to Romania, in the forest and in the castle to solve a challenge in order to move on to the next task.

4. The Nun

This is a horror movie that takes place at a cloistered abbey in Romania. I liked the movie, but if you are not a big fan of scary things, you can read the summary plot and see if this movie will interest you or not.

Like in any other horror movie, there is a haunted place where an evil spirit will try to terrorize the people who disturb that spirit. I can’t remember too much about this movie, because I know that I watch it with my brother and we usually make fun of these kinds of horror movies so as not to get scared.

5. Hotel Transylvania

Do I have to explain this one? I think the name already gave us a spoiler in terms of location. A funny animation movie, about Dracula who opens a hotel for all the monsters around the world. And what place could be more suitable that the Bran castle, in Transylvania?

The movie was appreciated by many people, regardless of age. And I’ll be honest, the whole franchise was absolutely good. Usually, the sequels aren’t as good as the original, but in this case, Hotel Transylvania has won at any point.

These were just some of the movies and TV series that mentioned Romania or anything related to this country, but I’m sure there are more and I can wait to see if there will be more in the near future as well!
