We’re teenagers and we struggle with this lack of attention every day. God bless the one that invented social media and gave us, the attention diggers, the opportunity to fake our messed up lives on the internet, to look like we can handle all this mess. But you’re not what you see in the mirror.
What’s really funny is what people would do for some likes.
Yes, I’m talking to you. What happened to that beautiful, heart-shaped butt from your new profile picture? Oh, you left it at home… I understand. Editing your pictures is perfectly fine, believe me, even if the background is curved or the tree behind you fainted when it saw how gorgeous you are. But please, don’t make it too obvious. You didn’t lose 10 pounds in 5 seconds for a picture.
You spend hours editing that nice photo you took yesterday and the more you look at it, the more you start hating it. Then, you start hating yourself: your eyes aren’t symmetrical, your nose is too big, your forehead is too wide, and that double-chin… STOP IT! Why do we give a damn about what others think, anyway?
Mirrors show us what we look like, not who we are.
Look at yourself. What do you see? I’ll tell you: a broken piece of glass. That’s all. Mirrors are just glass and you are more than that. You’re a beautiful soul, you’re worthy and you deserve to be happy. Some people tell you otherwise? Their reality is broken. Don’t let some sad, frustrated people change the way you think about yourself. In fact, life’s a mirror; if you smile at it, it will smile back at you.
Focus on the things you like about yourself!
How your eyes shine in the sunlight, how your hair is longer now and you can curl it the way you’ve always wanted. Your pale face in the moonlight? Damn… that’s poetry.
Take a closer look at yourself. Do you see that? Yes, me too. You’re more than what you see in the mirror.
