Trump glorifies violence on Twitter and doesn’t get away with it. From all politicians, Donald Trump may be the most active one on Twitter and you don’t have to be an avid user of social media to know it. The President crossed a line, and one of his tweets has been affixed a warning label regarding the promoting & glorifying of violence.
The post wasn’t deleted but is now hidden behind the notice. However, it can still be visible if you choose to view it, but you will not be able to like, reply, or retweet it. This was the first time such measures were taken regarding the President’s Twitter account.
As you may already know, the tweet in question was talking about the protests that followed George Floyd’s death.
“these THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”
After the post was reported as a rule violation, Twitter didn’t hold back and quickly took action about it. Therefore, the company stated:
“We’ve taken action in the interest of preventing others from being inspired to commit violent acts, but have kept the Tweet on Twitter because it is important that the public still be able to see the Tweet given its relevance to ongoing matters of public importance.”
Later on, Trump signed an executive order regarding the “censorship” of Twitter, showing his dissatisfaction with the social media platform.
