Top 5 movies on Netflix

For some of us, social distancing can be extremely difficult, especially for the extroverted ones, who are used to spending their days socializing and being surrounded by their loved ones. However, being stuck at home doesn’t necessarily mean you have to get bored as well. In times like these, good movies are your best friends and right now it’s time for you to meet my Top 5 movies on Netflix to keep you company in self-isolation!

1. Baby Driver (2017)

Genre: Action, Crime, Drama

I’m pretty sure you all remember the cute guy from “The Fault in Our Stars”. He was sweet, romantic and sensitive. Well, forget everything you know about Ansel Elgort in that movie because, in Baby Driver, he’s anything but a baby. Ironically, though, his character’s name is actually Baby. He’s the hero of the film – a badass getaway driver and a monster behind the wheel. When he drives, Baby needs continuous music from his huge collection, meant to inspire him but also drown out the noise, because he suffers from tinnitus.

Despite the fact that he’s involved with dangerous people, Baby is not a bad guy. He was just in the wrong place, at the wrong time and now he has to pay his dues. When he falls in love with a waitress, he starts fearing for her safety and tries to escape the world of illegalities. If I made you curious and you haven’t already seen it, you should definitely watch Baby Driver!

2. Game Night (2018)

Genre: Action, Comedy, Crime

Are you, by chance, looking for a good action movie, perhaps a witty comedy too? Perfect, because here it is, the perfect pick for tonight’s film marathon: Game Night! Six close friends (not in self-quarantine, so don’t get any ideas) meet at the end of every week for game nights. Though they have lots of fun every time, one of their gatherings takes an unexpected turn. They then find themselves entangled in a real-life mystery, as one of them gets kidnapped by a group of gangsters.

Honestly, the plot of this movie was absolutely shocking to me. I was doing my best to kind of foresee the end of it, but it was impossible. This film is anything but predictable and I had a really good laugh watching it, that’s why I think you should give it a try too. I’m sure you won’t regret it!

3. The Fundamentals of Caring (2016)

Genre: Comedy, Drama

If you’re a fan of combinations like comedy & drama, The Fundamentals of Caring is definitely the movie for you. The moving story of a retired writer who becomes a caregiver for a disabled teen will make you laugh through the tears and in the end, maybe reflect over your life-choices and priorities. Trevor (portrayed by Craig Roberts) is in a wheelchair and because he needs constant assistance, he rarely leaves his house. Along with his caregiver, Ben (played by Raul Rudd) they embark on an impromptu journey that teaches them a beautiful and important lesson. This film tackles down the importance of hope, friendship, and empathy. I think these are some valuable qualities all of us should have – especially in difficult times like these.

4. Someone Great (2019)

Genre: Comedy, Romance

Whether you’ve been or not in a similar situation, it’s impossible to not find this movie even a bit relatable. Starting with an extremely painful breakup and ending with a remarkably beautiful story about friendship, “Someone Great” has it all! Jenny is an aspiring music journalist. However, exactly when she gets to fulfill her life-long dream of writing for an iconic magazine in San Francisco, her boyfriend of nine years refuses the idea of a long-distance relationship and decides to call it quits.

As the movie goes on, Jenny recalls their best memories together. Along with her two best friends, she manages to get over losing the love of her life and learning what growth, friendship and love truly mean. I am not going to lie, I cried like a baby during the whole movie, even at the funny scenes. It made me extremely emotional and the fact that everything felt so real and easy to relate to made it even better. Also, check out the soundtrack too. It’s really good.

5. Life as We Know It (2010)

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance

An oldie but a goldie, as I like to say. This romantic comedy is not only a good movie to watch when you have nothing else to do, but an eye-opener too. “Life as We Know It” is the film that tells the heartbreaking story of two single adults who become caregivers to an orphaned girl when their mutual best friends die in an accident. Even though they’re extremely different and don’t like each other at first, they learn how to get along and do their best to raise the child.

Along the way, they face many challenges, learn that beautiful things take time and effort to happen and that everything is different behind closed doors. During this movie, I cried and I laughed. In the end, I couldn’t help myself and recommend it to all of my friends and family. If you’ve ever stumbled upon this movie but never watched it, now is the right time to do so.

So these were my Top 5 movies to watch on Netflix when you’re stuck home! If, however, you’re not a movie person and would like to read something instead, check out this article!
