I know it’s crazy to stay home on weekends, but some good movies, a bowl of popcorn, a fluffy blanket and a hot chocolate / boiled wine / whatever your heart wants can be a really cool combination. Of course, if you are careful about the wine.
Long talk, human poverty, so here are the 5 fun movies to watch on the weekend (or anytime you want):
No.1: Citizen Kane
The thing about this movie is that if it’s not the best movie, then it’s one of the best movies from the history of cinematography. It’s an old film from 1940, where the main actor is a citizen named Kane. From here the name of the movie.
After the death of Kane, a media tycoon, his ascension evoked, through interwoven stories, by the people who knew him. The film is revolutionary on several aspects, notably through its abundance of tricks and the complexity of flashback editing, according to the ever-present Wikipedia.
The little one, Charles Foster Kane, on his deathbed, had the last word “Rosebud”. Well, this “Rosebud” becomes a subject of investigation for a journalist who would later discover the meaning of it to the world. For Kane, it seems, “Rosebud” meant everything he ever wanted, but didn’t have. Considering that Charles Foster Kane was the man who had everything.
„Mr. Kane was a man who got everything he wanted, and then lost it. Maybe Rosebud was something he couldn’t get, or something he lost.” – says the journalist in the film
Could it have been a love story? That Kane didn’t have or lost?
No.2: My Fair Lady
Also from the list of old and very nice movies comes My Fair Lady, a 1964 movie in which we see Audrey Hepburn. I’m sure, it’s worth watching the movie. A great phonetics teacher of the time, Henry Higgins meets Eliza Doolittle, a poor girl with an alcoholic father.
Well, at the sight of Eliza, Henry places a bet that he will teach Eliza to speak correctly. He wold make her speak so correctly, so elevated that she could pass herself off as a lady in high society. We have, therefore, a musical centered on a makeover story. The gentleman of the society, radically transforms her, the poor woman with an interesting language.
In addition, the film combines comics with music and romance , Audrey Hepburn delights with the simple stage presence.
No.3: The Mountain Between Us
The film is from 2017 and its main actors Idris Elba and Kate Winslet.
After their flight is canceled due to stormy weather, neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Bass (Idris Elba) and photojournalist Alex Martin (Kate Winslet) find Walter (Beau Bridges), a private pilot, to take them to Denver. From there, Alex had to get to his wedding, and Ben to Baltimore. Walter, the pilot who didn’t submit a flight plan before taking off, suffers a stroke being half of the road. The plane crashes into a mountain, and Ben, Alex and Walter’s dog survive.
Thus, Alex and Ben are in the middle of nowhere for days on end with their supplies dropping off. After a fight, Alex descends to the mountain, followed shortly by Ben and falls into the frozen water near an abandoned cabin. This is where a love story will actually start, and the rest of you will find out about it by watching the movie.
No.4: Sonic the Hedgehog
If you want to see a family movie, this is a good one.It released in 2020. In the movie we meet Sonic the Hedgehog, who is trying to face the complicated life on Earth and overcome evil. He a new best friend, a man by the name of Tom Wachowski. Soon, Doctor Robotnik, the representative of the forces of evil will want to capture Sonic and use his powers to conquer the world. At first glance it seems pathetic, but it is a pretty good animation. It’s great for a family evening, being a comedy.
No.5: Mr. and Mrs. Smith
If I was to tell you that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie where to combine love with action would you be interested? In the movie, John and Jane Smith (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) are a couple with a marriage of about 5-6 years old, but hat they do not know about each other is that they are assassins of secret spy organizations. Rival organizations, by the way.
When they discovers that their mission is to assassinate each other. A wave of passion, madness, struggles and love arises between the two. The film is from 2005, but it’s worth seeing it. Especially for the scene where the two realize who they are, in fact, combining the passion with the action, for real. With guns, knives and whatever they find in the house.
