As the Christmas holidays are just around the corner, I was thinking about presenting to you some sweet little books which could get you hyped for the celebrations we are so dearly expecting in the nearest future. This selection is made entirely by me and it presents to you my favourite books I read when I was a child and some of them even in my adulthood because there is never enough Christmas Spirit. I hope that you will give them a try, or maybe will read them in front of the Christmas tree while waiting for Santa Clause and that you will enjoy them and will have a wonderful time.
A Christmas Caroll-Charles Dickens
As a book lover and a classic amateur, I find it necessary to have a classic as our breakthrough participant and frankly there is no better candidate than Charles Dickens’ 1834 masterpiece titled oh so suggestively “A Christmas Carol”. This book is just that, a little song, a sweet and bitter song and a lesson nonetheless which gives us a wonderful perspective about morality and morals and why we should be good with each other, as a community.
I am well aware that this classic book has created a trope that has been overused in today’s media, however, I think the original text is a hundred times better than any reiteration you would find on the market. The book follows the story of Scrooge, a grumpy old man, who hates everything and everyone and especially celebrations. One night he is visited by his late business associate Jacob Marley and by three other interesting guests, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. I will not tell you anything more about this great little story and I encourage you to read it and get entangled in Dickens’ enigmatic storytelling.
Christmas Specials- Kim Ae Ran
This next proposition is unfortunately a bittersweet one. The novella of one of my favourite contemporary writers from South Korea is a story of unfortunate occurrences happening during an unfortunate Christmas, the mirage of capitalism and the savage, Perpetuum search of humans for a raison d’etre, for the chance of feeling something, anything when the world is deserted and devoid of meaning, This story is one of my favourites because it reminds me all the time about the deficiencies I have as a human and the limits which ground me.
You may call me insane for advising you to read this book for Christmas, but trust me, after this lecture, for it feel like a lecture rather than a simple book, you will feel fulfilled and somehow contempt with knowing we all may have a relatable sentiment with someone so far from you and so different, yet just the same.If you feel enticed, please do give this little novella a try and expect a future article concerning that particular writing in the near future.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas- Dr. Seuss
We come back to happy go lucky classic Christmas books. This book is very dear to me, as it is a book I used to read as a child, during the long winter school days when all I wanted to do was go back home to my fabulous, colloured-paper adorned Chrtismas tree where tiny sparkles would fall on every page of my book and where I had sweet treats near me. As the title suggests, I am talking about the book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss.

This book tells the story of Grinch, a sour, little green creature-thingy, who tries to end Christmas and plans to steal gifts in order to succeed. He will later discover, because of some new acquaintances and some very fortunate events, that maybe Christmas is not all blind buying and fake joviality, but more than that. I advise you to read this book to sweeten your evening or noon while having a big cup of hot cocoa near you and do tell us what you think about this selection.
