A gratitude journal is not your ordinary diary. It’s much more than that. It’s a tool that helps people strengthen their mental health and overall attitude towards life. It’s more of an exercise that trains our brains to focus on what’s truly important and lends us a helping hand in avoiding stress and negativity.

Starting a gratitude journal is a wonderful and productive habit that doesn’t require more than 5 minutes of your time. Incorporating it into your daily routine will bring you only benefits and eventually cause a noticeable positive difference.

It will encourage you to find motivation

We frequently find ourselves experiencing a lack of motivation and are in desperate need of something to give us a slight nudge. Journaling about the things we have accomplished or wish to achieve has proven to be a successful way to keep us driven.

On one hand, reviewing the achieved goals that we have written down can give us the necessary encouragement we sometimes require. This reminds us of our strengths and capabilities and helps us move forward. On the other hand, the habit of putting down our future goals gives us a clear picture of our aspirations and prevents us from straying off the right path.

It will place you in a positive mindset

Waking up with a positive attitude can greatly influence the course of the day. However, we all sometimes wake up haunted by a bad mood and as much as we try to escape it, it finds us again.

Writing in a gratitude journal may help lighten that mood up a bit. Even in our worst moments, choosing positivity should always be our priority instead of surrendering ourselves to our negative emotions. Writing down positive affirmations will certainly make you feel better.

It will make you appreciate the smallest things in life

A gratitude journal keeps us grounded and just like the name says, it reminds us that gratitude should always come first in life. Every day write down the things you feel grateful for in that particular moment and soon you’ll realize how often we take things for granted, especially the smallest and often considered insignificant events such as being able to witness the sunrise and sunset when in reality some people can’t experience even these small and silly things we frequently overlook.
