When they are little, kids often dream that they can do magic and spells, talk with animals and much more. And all of these wishes were accomplished and fulfilled when a first-time author named J.K. Rowling published her first book, a book for children, entitled “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, whose name was later changed to “ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”. And since then, history was written.
How the “Harry Potter” series took shape
Let’s start with the beginning. The idea for Harry Potter first came to J.K. Rowling while waiting for a delayed train which would have taken her from Manchester to London’s King’s Cross station.
When J.K. Rowling first started to write her book, she was a single mother on public assistance, who found her inspiration in unexpected places and also people, for example, an 8-year-old girl.
Like many first-time authors, she really struggled with the process of publishing her first book, which was rejected by a dozen publishers before finally being accepted by a small British publisher named Bloomsbury. After the first book’s big success, J.K. Rowling continued the story and wrote 6 more books, who broke record after record and became one of the most loved series of all time.
The story and the characters
The book begins by telling the Harry Potter’s story, who is the main character. He is saved from the wrath and desire to kill of Voldemort, the main antagonist, by Dumbledore, who we later find out that is the headmaster of the prestigious school of witchcraft and wizardry, Hogwarts. The whole story of the 7 books revolves around Harry Potter’s years and experiences at Hogwarts, the relationships that he forms, especially with Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, and most especially, the battles with Voldemort, all leading to the final war from the 7th book called “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”.
The “Harry Potter” movies
And just like that, the story came to life! For the early Harry Potter fans, the announcement that their beloved story is going to be turned into a movie was exciting. They also had the opportunity to see their favorite characters came to life with the help of great actors who perfectly embodied their characters such as: Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, who practically grew alongside the hero, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Rupert Grint as Ronald Weasley, Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy, Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, the late Alan Rickman as Severus Snape, Michael Gambon as Dumbledore etc.
The four directors who worked on the series: Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell and David Yates, truly succeeded at putting the story into images and caught the story in a truthful way.
Sadly, I discovered the books and the movies for the first time during high school in 9th grade when some of my classmates told me to watch the movies. And since then, the Harry Potter series became one of my most beloved series of all time. For me, getting to watch my favourite heroes came to life on the screen was a marvelous experience. The story is so well-written and perfectly turned into life and will offer you a truly magical experience while watching the moves or while reading the books.
And since the 20th anniversary is approaching, our most beloved stars are reuniting for conversations and interviews in HBO Max’s “Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts”, which will have its premiere on the first of January, 2022.
Finally, since Christmas is approaching, I truly recommend a Harry Potter marathon because in my opinion, some of the movies have Christmas scenes which will get you into the holiday spirit and you won’t regret. Also, it is always perfect time to be reintroduced into the magical world of Harry Potter!
