I’ve always been a fan of survival movies as they are suspenseful and inspiring, but unfortunately, it is difficult to find a good one. Most of them are either boring or unrealistic and I end up giving up before finishing them. However, there were 5 of these movies that I absolutely love and I would re-watch any day.
This is a 2015 adventure movie that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It revolves around two groups of men, that want to reach the top of the mountain, but encounter terrible weather conditions that put their lives in danger and challenge their resistance. The most astonishing thing about this survival movie is the fact that it’s based on real events (the 1996 Mount Everest disaster).
This is another movie based on real events, that left me sobbing by the end. It’s a biographical drama starring James Franco that revolves around the bad luck of the protagonist. Aron Ralston goes out to explore the Utah Canyonlands National Park and gets his hand stuck between a rock wall and a boulder. This is where the fight for survival starts and Aron is forced to go through horrendous times and starts recording himself when he realizes that he might not make it.
Malibu Shark Attack
It is movies like this one that you find yourself watching at 2 am while your parents are asleep. The plot revolves around a group of people stuck in a lifeguard hut while a tsunami hits. They soon realize that some once fossil goblin sharks escaped due to the earthquake that had caused the tsunami and they need to find a way to get out of the hut. I was on vacation the first time I’ve watched this survival movie and I will only mention that it made me refuse to go swimming.
I’ve seen this at the movies and I remember thinking that it was one of the best survival movies I had ever seen. It is still on the top of my list to this day. It portrays the story of a family that tries to survive the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The huge wave hits, while the kids are having a good time in the pool, and the whole family is captive along with the locals, that try their best to help.
This is also an old survival movie that has fascinated me since I was a kid. The terror unleashes when a group of four reckless teenagers run over a bear cub. Its mother, a huge grizzly bear, starts hunting them down mercilessly to avenge her cub.
