Sugar addiction: How to know if you're eating too much sugar?

Let’s talk about sugar addiction. Most people like to end their meal with a dessert. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, just that quantity matters. More and more people are addicted to sugar and are not aware of this or the seriousness of the situation. But eating too much sugar can lead to serious problems such as diabetes or rapid weight gain.

Here are 5 signs that you are eating too much sugar and you probably have a sugar addiction:

1. Constant craving for sugar

The more sugar you consume, the more dependent you become on it. Like a drug, sugar induces a transient state of ecstasy.

2. You feel tired and without energy

Foods with a high sugar concentration energize you for a short time, after which your blood sugar drops and you feel tired.

3. You are depressed or anxious

Sugar is one of the most important contributors to mood disorders such as depression or anxiety. You go through a rollercoaster of emotions until the moment you decide to give it up.

4. Skin conditions, joint pain, headaches, bloating

Sugar has inflammatory effects on the body. That means it causes skin problems, like acne, dry skin, bags under the eyes, cellulite but also inflammations that give pain. Studies show that when you reduce the amount of sugar and dairy you consume daily, your skin can look much cleaner.

5. Weight gain

The most common sign of excess blood sugar or sugar addiction is weight gain. According to experts, when there is too much sugar in the body, it is stored to be converted into energy. But if this does not happen, it is turned into fat.

6. Insomnia

Sleep problems are a clear sign that the person should reduce their sugar intake. Eaten before bed, sweets or high-sugar products will keep us from falling asleep.

How you can reduce the amount of sugar you consume?

For starters, it would be good if you could gradually give up the sweets you buy. It will be much easier for you if you give up the temptations around you. Of course, at certain events, you can eat something sweet, but in moderation.
What you can do is replace sugar with foods such as almonds, fruits, figs, etc.
