shaman king reboot

Good news, anime & manga fans: We’re getting a Shaman King Reboot this year! I think we deserve it as a treat for going through so much lately. In this article, you will find out how the legendary journey of Yoh Asakura began and what do we know so far about the reboot.

Manga & the first Anime adaptation

The Shaman King Manga comprises 35 volumes released between 1998 and 2004, which will all be adapted into the 2021 Shaman King Reboot. Hiroyuki Takei’s main characters have already been shown in this promotional poster:

The first anime adaptation of Shaman King had 64 episodes, which aired in 2001. It was one of the anime series I grew up with. I was glued to the screen every evening, eager to see my favorite characters in action. I watched a Romanian dubbed version, and I loved every minute of it, even the somewhat rushed end. Over the years, my interest in anime diminished…until I found out that there is going to be a Shaman King Reboot!

The plot

From the information now available, the Shaman King Reboot will follow the familiar plot from the 2001 adaptation, showing Yoh Asakura’s journey to becoming The Shaman King. He takes part in a sacred tournament in which he develops his bond with his guardian spirit, Amidamaru, making friends and foes along the way.

You can watch a snippet here, which is basically how Manta Oyamada (named Morty in the English version) first meets Yoh Asakura while he’s chilling in the cemetery.

However, the 2021 reboot will include the manga canon end, which has been released after the first Shaman King anime adaptation. As I said, the end felt somewhat rushed, so I am eager to find out how the adventure truly ended.

When will the Shaman King Reboot air?

King Amusement Creative announced that the Shaman King Reboot will premiere in April 2021, so get ready for a new adventure!

According to the SK Fandom Wikipedia page, most voice actors from the original cast will reprise their roles in the Shaman King Reboot. The only exception so far seems to be the main character, Yoh, who will be voiced by Youko Hikasa this time.

This is what we know so far about the Shaman King Reboot. This article might be updated if the studio releases new information. Until then, watch the official trailer for the Shaman King Reboot:
