The scientific community condemned the myths about 5G tehnology, which were thought to help the transmission of COVID-19!
People from around the world shared videos with mobile phone masts burning in Birmingham and Merseyside, along with bogus theories, on social media. Many shared the videos on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, including people with thousands of followers.
The conspiracy theories say that:
- 5G tehnology affects the immune system, making people susceptible to the virus;
- 5G technology can transmit the COVID-19;
Both theories are “complete rubbish” by the words of Dr. Simon Clarke, microbiology professor at the University of Reading.
“The idea that 5G lowers your immune system doesn’t stand up to scrutiny” said Dr Clarke. He also added that many things can “dip” your immune system, including being tired and stressed.
Radio waves of the 5G tehnology aren’t too powerful to affect the health of the people. While the strong radio waves can cause heating, 5G is nowhere near strong enough to affect our immune system. 5G sits too low on the frequency end of the electromagnetic spectrum.
The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) said that they don’t have any evidence about cancer or other illnesses created by mobile networks.
However, the information escalated rather quickly. Trade body Mobile UK said that the false rumours were concerning.
