Oh, puns! Some people love them, some people detest them. I’ve seen these two reactions to my jokes so many times. I’ve heard so many individuals complaining about them. They say they are all cheesy, bad and reflect stupidity. Well, my fellow readers, they are the exact opposite. Why? Let me explain my opinion on why puns are a great sign of creativity. Whoever is against this statement has the right to be PUNished!
THEY ARE THE KEY OF WORD PLAY
Being able to play with the words is a fun and creative asset. It allows you to search for ingenious ideas in an enjoyable way. And guess what? They are the PUNch line of word play! Of course, if you look for cheesy stuff, you should go ahead and bake a cheesecake. Not every pun is respectable. Some of these “little jokes” are taken too far in inappropriate contexts. Every clever word play has a unique PUNctuality. While a vast majority sees them as silly jokes, they are not so easy to create.
THEY ARE FUN AND INOFFENSIVE, ADDING A SPARKLE OF IMAGINATION
I cannot imagine making fun of things that others enjoy. At most, I’d be judgmental (only if the things they enjoy cause harm), but poking fun at someone else’s hobby? It’s quite sad, honestly. Hobbies encourage people’s thinking and imagination. Similar to reading, hobbies like sewing, cooking, drawing or even playing with words are a “shower” for the brain. If you don’t shower, you will become filthy and that brain filth is reflected in people’s actions, thoughts and words. Not only do hobbies make you feel relaxed, they are also a great way of learning. It is the same with word play and clever jokes! You learn new idioms, new words, and new ways of expressing yourself in an entertaining way. With that being said, don’t be afraid of being sPUNky!
PUNS CAN CONNECT PEOPLE!
We’ve already stated that word play and puns are pretty much a type of hobby. Much like other hobbies, puns can connect people. It’s the WiFi that connects us to a variety of people. You can meet and connect with so many people! My social skills are not the best, I’m still kind of awkward, but I’m always telling puns. And this helped me a lot! I’ve met so many people through puns.
The vast majority of these people helped me expand my creative assets. They even helped me write fun essays! Ideas sPUN around my head. Maybe not all people will agree with my opinion and will never thing that puns are a sign of creativity. However, in the end, real puns are not only inoffensive, but fun and creative as well!
