Girls! Sometimes, make-up is essential. For one, I wear make-up almost every time I go out (of course, not for errands, but on a night out, it might be a must). I must start with the fact that no one taught me how to do it. Perhaps hours and hours on YouTube and blogs might have had a say in this. I believe make-up is an art, and it takes a lot of practice to master it. I don’t – yet, but I see a lot of girls making the same mistakes over and over again. I am here to tell you some tips and tricks on applying make-up and taking care of your skin. These are make-up mistakes we all did at least once.
Don’t forget about skincare
I cannot stress enough how important skincare is, especially when you’re young. I know what most people believe – don’t put products on your face, you’re too young, what are you going to do when you’re older, you’ll damage your skin. This is so wrong. You need to take care of your skin, even if you’re young.
For starters, never go to sleep with your make-up on. Ever. Trust me. I know you might be too tired after a night out – I’ve been there before – but take care of your skin properly. You’re probably not going to like the next thing I am going to say, but make-up wipes are a no-go – even if they’re easier to use. Use a make-up remover or micellar water.
Also, make sure you have some kind of routine you follow when it comes to skincare, for both morning and evening. Use cleansers, toners, serums, eye creams, moisturizers, face masks. I know it sounds overwhelming – it certainly was for me – but your skin will thank you.
Never start your make-up without sunscreen
I must confess, I left out the sunscreen from the very beginning. Thank God that’s over. It’s crucial to protect your skin from the sun, and not only when you’re at the beach. Before applying a primer (which is another essential step in putting on make-up), apply sunscreen. I use a 50 SPF sunscreen. Make sure you find one that won’t let white spots on your skin, which can ruin your foundation. Oh, simple make-up mistakes.
Keep in mind that you need to wait a few minutes before applying the next product – give the sunscreen time to do its magic and be absorbed into your skin.
Never apply foundation on your bare skin
Listen up, girls. P-R-I-M-E-R. Don’t apply your foundation without a primer. It keeps your make-up in place. The same thing goes for the eyes. I don’t know about you, but my eyelids are oily, and the make-up just won’t last. Use a primer for your eyelids, as well. Concealer works, too.
Don’t forget you also have a neck
When it comes to foundation, you need to choose the right one for your skin tone. You’ve probably seen girls with a lighter or darker tone – it just does not look good. This might be among the most popular make-up mistakes we’ve all did in the past. Next time you want to choose a foundation, make sure you try a sample before spending money.
When you apply your foundation (after primer!) make sure you don’t forget you also have a neck. It’s quite funny to see a person who doesn’t have the same “color” on both the face and the neck. And to set the foundation, use powder.
It takes a lot of practice to do make-up. But we all have to start somewhere, right?
