Recently, more people watch Christmas movies, to get in the Christmas spirit. Christmas movies stepped up their game and included LGTB+ characters. The 2020 Pelicula named ‘Happiest Season’, starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis is an American romantic comedy that illustrates the journey of a longtime lesbian couple during the Christmas holidays.

The relationship and its future

In Happiest Season, we see a cute and loving couple. Harper invites Abby to her parent’s house so they will get to spend the holiday together. But later on, Harper forgot to mention that she wasn’t out to her family and that she would have to introduce Abby as her roommate. What does this say about Harper? Is she the same loving partner as in the beginning? Well, Abby gets excited, thinking about the proposal, but doesn’t know that little detail. Harper tells her that only when they are on the road, and she cannot make another decision.

Harper’s character and her behavior in Happiest Season

At first, we see a cute and loving couple. Harper invites Abby to her parent’s house so that they will get to spend the holiday together.

After that, Harper tells her partner to lie about her sexuality. During their stay, Harper tries too hard to be liked by her parents, that she forgets about Abby. She meets her old friends, hangs out with them, doesn’t trust Abby, and lies about her past.

What bugged me the most was that in the breaking point of the story when Harper is fighting with her sister in front of the guests, and her sister reveals to the family Harper’s relationship with Abby. Harper lies, and Abby is breaking up with her. But what about the next scene? Harper proved herself to be an anxious person. And that is understandable, as her family is so fixed on the idea of perfection. But she isn’t honest with Abby.

Was `Happiest Season` an awful movie?

I didn’t like it. It lacked the substance of a good movie. I felt the rage, love, sadness, but what I didn’t feel was the change, Harper’s sudden realization of her actions and attitude.

But it wasn’t an awful movie. The story was beautiful, not based on Harper’s coming out to her family, but on the pressure that exists in a family. Harper’s family talk about their wishes and learn to accept each other.

However, ‘Happiest Season’ was a funny movie. I would change the ending of the movie, but I must admit that it wasn’t such a terrible movie.
