“Come and see” – An underrated movie you might enjoy

Everyone likes movies, right? Let’s set aside the classic action movies with car chases, lots of guns, hot chicks, and shredded protagonists. Today I’m going to talk about a very serious and profound movie that really left its mark on me: “Idi i Smotri” which is the Russian for “Come and see”.

All of us know about World War II, the suffering, and the deaths that occurred during this horrible event in human history. War is never something good, but the majority of movies that portray this event mainly focus on the event from a bird’s view, very detached and channeled on the fight between the Axis and the Alliance.

“Come and See” portrays the atrocities that happened in Belorussia during World War II from the perspective of our protagonist: 13yrs old boy Flyora and his girlfriend Glasha.

War through the eyes of two kids… Just the thought of it gives me chills, but the movies itself is just jaw-dropping.

I’m not going to spoil anything from the movie, I will just tell you some facts about it and will leave it to your choice if you want to watch it or not, but believe me, it is worth it.

The title is a quote from the “Book of Revelation” which invites us to look upon the hell brought by the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” the hell being represented here by the genocide from Belorussia.

Live ammunition was used in the movie and passed above Flyora’s head (played by Aleksey Kravchenko) at about 10 centimeters.

This movie was Aleksey Kravchenko’s debut as an actor. He had to undergo a very strict diet which made him experience fatigue and hunger and after the movie was done he was very thin and had grey hair.

At first, the movie was not approved by the “State Committee for Cinematography” from the Soviet Union because it was labeled as too realistic.

Come and See (Modern Trailer)

Both of the scriptwriters had fought in the war and had seen the horrors of it.

All of the events shown in the movie happened exactly how they are presented, being based on the accounts of the people that survived the massacre.

It is rated 8.3 on IMDb so this means it might be worth your time.

I’m begging you, please watch this movie, because it is a masterpiece. I don’t know what to say about it without giving any spoilers, but it is one of the high-quality movies out there that really sends a message and not a mediocre one.
