China is returning to normal, but can their recovery be trusted?

China returning to normal

As China is slowly returning to normal after taking a hit from the COVID-19 pandemic, many wonder now if the recovery can be trusted. While the United States and the rest of the world are currently under lockdowns, China is opening up slowly.

They are relaxing the travel restrictions in most of the country, and next week people will be allowed to leave Wuhan. However, officials warned citizens not to go out too much. They fear that a second wave, much like during the Spanish flu, will hit.

And this fear is well founded.

Many officials from around the world think that the numbers reported can be trusted. It will not be the first time that China covered up the seriousness of an illness. Most can remember how they handled the SARS virus.

But Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying denied all accusations of covering up numbers. She stated that the country:” has been giving open, transparent and timely updates to the world.” She also said that people should listen to the World Health Organization and experts rather than to politicians, who are “ habitual liars”, in her words.

”It is immoral and inhumane to politicise public health, which should be condemned by all in the US and beyond. I hope they will lose no more time and focus instead on fighting the pandemic and saving American lives” Hua added.

Miss Chunying accused officials in the US of trying to shift the blame. Right now, the United States are suffering greatly from the virus. A whopping 245.373 people have been reported as coronavirus positive.

China returning to normal is also doubted by its own population. Kyle Hui, an individual whose mother died in mid-January, stated that her cause of death was “ severe pneumonia.” But the doctor that treated her said it was likely that she had coronavirus. This means that her death was not recorded in the coronavirus casualties.

As people resume travelling and working, many fear a potential second wave. A lot of coronavirus positive people are asymptomatic, which means they don’t know they have it. But, just as the ones who have symptoms, they can transmit the virus to others.
