The makeup industry has become a giant in the modern world in the past 5 years or more. It has given women and men the chance to either enhance their beauty, create wild looks or even draw incredible masterpieces on their faces and bodies. We also saw the rise to power of a number of makeup brands such as Anastasia Beverly Hills, Morphe, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, Huda Beauty, Fenty Beauty and many more. And they all did a great job in releasing eyeshadow and pressed pigments palettes too!
But in this article, I’d like to focus on a very specific one.
We all heard of this beautiful palette that came out earlier this year, but is it actually revolutionary or just another basic palette that was crafted as a quick cash-grab?
The Amrezy palette was released on the 20th of January 2020. It will be available only until July since it is a limited-edition collaboration with the beautiful Amra “Amrezy” Olevic. She is an Instagram star known for her outstanding pictures and beauty content. Amrezy is also known as a MAC artist. This will be her third collaboration with the well-known brand.
However, her choice of shades got people thinking.
In 2020, we expect people to get more creative with their choices when it comes to constructing and releasing palettes. So when the Amrezy one came out in January, the beauty world was split in two.
On one side stood the people who saw it as a change in the industry, and on the other stood those who just recognized it as another neutral nude palette with no personality.
So which one is right?
I got the lovely opportunity to get it and try it out for myself. I must say, for my first Anastasia Beverly Hills palette, it left quite a good impression on me. Not that I haven’t tried others from their line, but I’ve never owned one. The formula is creamy and rich in pigment, making it very easy to use if you want a bold look, but also a soft one.
One critique addressed to the choice of shades was that, out of the 16, 8 were metallic and shimmers, 2 were glitter and only 6 were mattes. An odd choice for many, but let me tell you that it was not in vain. The versatility in looks that you can achieve with those shades, from day to day looks to gala-styled ones. And all of this is because there are 4 different formulas used.
Another thing that was highly disputed was the fact that they put two glitter shades in the palette. Many people despise glitter in palettes. Not all are into this and I agree with the fact that glitters should be sold separately since they require a special primer.

Despite this, the palette was a massive success sales-wise.
People have also the two almost identical brown shades called New Yawker and OG. There is a difference, however. New Yawker is a caramel brown, while OG is a soft brown. This can also be seen when applied on the eyelid. And while the swatches on the internet are all jam-packed with pigment, and it may seem like they are exactly the same. From my own experience I must say that it’s just a stretch.
All in all, I must say that the Amrezy palette was a good investment from my standpoint.
It is beautiful, has rich pigments, stunning metallics and it is definitely worth buying. I must say that, out of all the Anastasia Beverly Hills palettes, I have enjoyed playing with this one the most.
