Christmas is right around the corner, and many of us are looking for wonderful but still affordable gifts for our friends and family. It can be hard to find budget friendly gifts that are high quality and that will prove to be both useful and unique, but here, I’ve done my best to come up with a gift list that is sure to impress the art lovers in your life:
1. Mona Lisa to Marge: How the World’s Greatest Artworks Entered Popular Culture
One of the best gifts you can get for an art lover is a book about art. This one is a great choice, in my opinion, not only because it’s incredibly affordable, but also because it’s very interesting. It tackles the way in which 30 of the most popular paintings of all time became just that – famous pop culture elements. The book is incredibly well written and entertaining, and whoever you’re gifting it to is sure to get a giggle out of it as well.
2. A tote bag
Tote bags have become incredibly popular over the last few years. They can be used for anything – as a handbag or for carrying groceries – and almost every young person I know owns at least one. An art print tote bag is a great gift for an art lover: it’s both versatile and beautiful. You can find tons of different print options, such as the Mona Lisa, Klimt’s The Kiss or Van Gogh’s Irises.
Similarly to tote bags, mugs are something that almost everyone uses, often on a daily basis. Art print mugs or cups are both useful and aesthetically pleasing, which makes them a great gift choice. Some of my favorite options that I found online are these Mondrian espresso cups and this set of 2 Van Gogh mugs. Another similar gift that someone can get a lot of use out of would be a set of art print coasters, and I found this Claude Monnet set that I really liked.
4. A journal
If the person you’re buying a gift for enjoys writing, then an art print journal is a great gift for them. You can find journals with just about any famous painting out there, from Vermeer’s Young Woman with a Water Pitcher to Munch’s The Scream.
5. Masterworks: History of Art – a foolproof Christmas gift
This is another art book that will probably be very appreciated, especially if you’re gifting it to someone who is passionate about art history. It discusses some of the most important masterpieces of Western art, going from the 1200s all the way to the 21st century. It compiles a lot of important information about the artists that made these paintings, as well as some lesser known details about the artworks. The fact that it encapsulates so much of the history of painting makes it, in my opinion, a good gift for any art lover, and you can’t really go wrong with it.
