Probably everyone has heard of Naruto, Death Note and other famous Japanese anime. Even so, there are plenty of underrated shows which could interest someone looking for more than your everyday soap opera. Without further ado, here are 5 unknown anime worth watching:
1) Sankarea: Undying Love
Furuya, the male lead, has an unhealthy obsession with zombies. The action starts when, after the death of his cat, he tries to resurrect it using an ancient occult book. Luckily, Rea, a rich girl with family issues, stumbles around the place where he was hiding. The potion to bring back Babu to life doesn’t have the desired effect right away, and, desperate to escape her situation at home, Rea drinks the potion, before tragedy occurs. The series follows Furuya and Rea’s journey between life and death, the supernatural and the inevitable romance between the two teens.
2) Devilman Crybaby
Childhood best friends Akira and Ryo uncover a dark secret. An ancient race of demons has returned on Earth to claim it. Therefore, Ryo convinces Akira that the only way to discover their weakness and to defeat them is to unite with one such demon. Thus, the internal conflict of Akira begins, as he struggles to keep his good nature, while he battles his own demon(s). Sometimes gory and with mind-blowing plot-twists, the show progresses into a complete anarchy and a final fight unlike any other.
3) Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster)
Shizuku is your typical honor student. Working and studying every day, she is striving for a better future for her and her family. The romantic comedy is centered around her and Yoshida, a bright boy who had skipped classes for a long time. As their form teacher begs Shizuku to convince her classmate to come back to school, she visits his home to bring him some materials. What follows is the blossoming of a beautiful friendship, which later turns into a shy romance.
4) Paradise Kiss
Yukari is a senior in high school, with no particular career or academic prospects. As she begins questioning her future, she meets a group of fashion design students who need a model for their last showcase. Yukari is inspired by the group’s passion and dedication, deciding to leave home and pursue modelling professionally. Thus, the 12 episodes show Yukari’s struggle to become an independent young woman, on top of falling in love with the group’s leader, George.
5) Michiko & Hatchin
Michiko is a strong-willed woman who has just escaped prison. She starts looking for her daughter, Hana (later Hatchin), who acts like a slave for her adoptive family.
