When you think of Tim Burton movies what do you think of?  Perhaps Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter come to your mind firstly, or insane imagery, fantasy and science fiction. In this list, we have all of those things in 5 of the best Tim Burton movies.

  1. Edward Scissorhands

This movie is classified as a romantic, dark, fantasy film. Edward (Johnny Depp) was created by an inventor who died before finishing him, so instead of hands, he ended up with scissor blades.  He was taken in by a family in the suburbs and he falls in love with their daughter. The movie follows Edward’s life in the suburbs where people first fear him but then realize how kind and gentle he is.

  1. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp) has a contest in which five lucky people who would find the golden tickets in the chocolate bars can join him at his chocolate factory for a once in a lifetime tour. Willy Wonka has a hidden motivation for the tour, but he will only reveal it when he sees the children’s true colours.

  1. The Nightmare Before Christmas

This movie follows Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king who has become bored of the same yearly routine in “Halloween Town” of scaring people in the real world. And so, Jack stumbles upon “Christmas Town”, with its bright colours and warm holiday cheer he begins to see life a little differently. He now wants to be king of Christmas town but that means, getting rid of the big guy, Santa Claus.

We all know this story right? The tea party, the Mad Hatter, the white rabbit… well Tim Burton brings this classic story to life in 2010. Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) first visited the magical wonderland when she was a young girl. But now as a teenager, at her own garden party in honour of her and her fiancé, she realizes that the place that she only remembered in her dreams is real. She spotted a white rabbit and decided to follow him and tumbled right down a hole.  And so, she finds herself reunited with her old friends, including the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), with whom she must fight the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter).

  1. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

This is a British-American, period musical horror film. Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp) is a barber and a serial killer who murders his customers with a razor. Then with the help of his partner Mrs Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), they process their corpses into meat pies. Yeah, I know… kind of gross.
