5 National Days that have absolutely fascinated me

National Mother’s Day, we all know about it. But did you know there is a special day which celebrates potatoes? After reading about a multitude of National Days I selected 5 and talked about them in this article.

May 18 – National Visit Your Relatives Day

There are occasions when we miss a member of our family. We are living hectic lives and we are constantly in a rush. This day was created in order to bring family members together. Time passes by quickly and we shouldn’t forget about our loved ones. It’s enough to send a text message or call them. Especially if you don’t see each other often.

June 9 – National Donald Duck Day

This hilarious animated cartoon character has its very own special day. Donald Duck, the duck we all grew up with. June 8 is the day when this wonderful character is celebrated. You may be wondering, why June 9? Well, Donald Duck made his acting debut on June 9, 1934, in a short movie named The Wise Little Hen

August 19 –  National Potato Day

I don’t know about you, but I am a huge fan of potatoes. They come in a variety of forms – mashed, fried, baked. Although I assume the most popular are the french fries. It was surprising to find out there is a day dedicated especially to potatoes. The National Potato Day has been celebrated since 2006.

October 5 – National Do Something Nice Day

As you might have guessed from the name, this day celebrates kind gestures. For example, you could compliment a complete stranger or open the door for another person. Try to do something like this next year on October 5th. Even without this national day, it would be amazing if people would do something nice whenever they have the chance.

December 14 – National Monkey Day

It seems like there is a national day for monkeys. Besides monkeys, December 14 also celebrates other non-human primates such as lemurs, apes, or tarsiers. This holiday was created and popularized in 2000 by two art students from Michigan State University. A lot of zoos hold different events on National Monkey Day in order to educate the population about monkeys and other animals.

I hope you found this article interesting. It was fun to research these national days. The one which fascinated me the most was The National Donald Duck Day. I never imagined he would have a day all to himself. What can I say, the internet never fails to amaze me.
