Keep yourself active! Is very important, especially now that we are dealing with a pandemic and spend most of our time at home trying to remain sane. Even if it’s hard to find the motivation, staying active, taking time for a workout or just a walk will surely make a change in your mood and help you regain some control during these times.
Here are the best tips I’ve got to help you keep yourself active:
1. Listen to an audiobook or a podcast when you go for a walk
Going for a walk is one of the best ways to destress yourself. Even though I know that, I still find it hard to actually go for a walk and not come back inside after 1 minute. So, to avoid that, I started taking my phone with me and putting on a podcast or an audiobook, and believe me when I say that it completely changed the game.
With my headphones and usually Emma Chamberlain’s podcast, my walks take from 20 minutes to an hour, even more, if I get lost in a good book.
2. Find the workout that fits you best
Working out is not the same for everyone. We all have different goals, strengths and preferences. I used to be so mad at myself for abandoning every workout because I couldn’t resist and I would always fail when trying to start making it a habit, at least until I realized something.
I realized that it was normal to be like that since I was not used to being active and I couldn’t even remember the last time I had worked out. What I did to make it last was starting slow. I found short workouts for beginners and as I gained strength I started doing more and more. The beginning is always hard, but you’ll get used to it and start ‘craving’ the feeling you get after every workout.
3. Sleep at least 7 hours per night
Though is often neglected, sleep is important too. You’ll never have the energy you need if you don’t sleep. Getting enough sleep matters just as much as eating healthy and exercising. In fact, poor sleep is linked to higher body weight. Sleeping at least 7 hours per night will not only prevent that, but also help you relax, protect your mental and physical health, but also the quality of your life.
4. Eat as healthy as possible
Eating healthy has amazing benefits. I know that we are not living the best times and you need comfort foods to go through each day, but try not to forget the fact that vegetables and fruits still exist and you should eat them too. When you eat well, you feel well.
You have energy, you can concentrate better and you will want to move and be active, even have a productive day! Don’t think that you have to cut off your favourite meals and snacks because you can eat those too, listen to your needs and eat the right foods for your body and your soul.
