Over the last few years, as beauty gurus and influencers have seen an increase in popularity, more and more makeup brands have started to emerge, and many of them aren’t cheap. But when influencers sometimes promote beauty products that turn out to be fails, how can you tell whether a high-end product is actually worth the splurge?

The best way to tell whether something’s actually worth the money is by going through as many client reviews as possible. Regular clients, unlike the influencers who are often paid to promote certain products or brands, have no reason to lie about the actual quality of a product. As someone who’s very passionate about makeup and skincare and who’s tried out a lot of products over the years, I thought I’d compile a short list of reviews of my all-time favorite high-end beauty brands in order to help you find out whether they’re actually worth all that hype.

1. Fenty Beauty

Fenty Beauty is a relatively new makeup brand, having only been launched in 2017, but it immediately gained popularity due to the fact that it was founded by the famous singer Rihanna. One of the reasons Fenty Beauty immediately gained the attention of makeup enthusiasts is the wide range of options it offers, with 50 foundation shades and products suited to all skin types.

Having tried quite a few of their products since the brand was first launched, I can honestly said that I’ve never been disappointed by any of them, and some products have become permanent staples of my collection. My favorite product for oily skin is their Pro Filt’r Mattifying Primer, and I also highly recommend their famous Gloss Bomb. If I had to choose only one highlighter to use for the rest of my life, it would be the Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil. Although it’s a lot more expensive than most highlighters, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth with how long this product will last you.

2. Natasha Denona

Unlike Fenty Beauty, Natasha Denona has been around for 20 years. Created by a certified makeup artist and also named after her, the brand manufactures high-quality products that have been staples in professional artists’ makeup kits for years.

The brand is best known for its eyeshadows, and this is also why I love it so much. Although their prices are on the high side even for a high-end makeup brand, with some eyeshadow palettes going up to more than $200 each, they’re definitely worth the hype. These are the most pigmented and easy to blend eyeshadows I’ve ever used, and if you don’t want to spend so much on a big palette but you’d still like to try them out, you can buy a mini palette of 5 shades for about $25, and there are plenty of options to choose from.

3. Hourglass Cosmetics

Hourglass Cosmetics is another high-end brand that’s been growing in popularity over the last few years, mainly because of the aesthetically pleasing marble patterned blushed and bronzers they produce. They’ve also stirred up a bit of a ruckus with the $100 steel mascara wand (yes, just a wand) they came out with a couple of years ago which, to me, looks more like a long screw than anything else.

Leaving aside their more questionable products, I must say that the marbled blushes and bronzers are actually worth the hype. They’re very easy to blend and have a natural finish, and the product retains its marbled pattern even after you use it, so it remains aesthetically pleasing. My favorite is their ‘Diffused Bronze Light’ Ambient Lighting Bronzer. Besides the aforementioned steel wand, Hourglass Cosmetics also produces the regular kind of mascara that we all know and love, including the Caution Extreme Lash Mascara, which might just be my favorite eye makeup product of all times.
