3 anime series like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

jojo's bizarre adventures

Some time ago, the sixth instalment for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures was announced after a very long wait. This part was highly anticipated by the fandom and it has some big shoes to fill. But even if it was announced, it will still take some time for it to get animated.

While waiting for the sixth part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, why not kick back and enjoy the other three anime series with the same vibe? I’ve got just the right thing for you.

Hypnosis Microphone

Hypnosis Microphone, or HypMic, is a multimedia project about… rap. Kind of. Sort of. After the Third World War, Japan was reorganized as a matriarchy where women literally ran the world while men fight in a Division battle by rapping. They usually come in different trios that, at least in the anime, represent certain districts of Tokyo. The members usually represent some kind of stereotype related to that district of Tokyo, such as hosts for Shinjuku or otakus for Ikebukuro.

Even from the short synopsis that I laid out, it can be clearly seen that this project is… pretty out there. The best part is that even if you finish the anime and yearn for more, you have enough material to dive into the rabbit hole for a good time. There are manga series, albums, even stage musicals (and a game that’s not available right now). It is a dynamic series, full of interesting characters that are over the top, just like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Food Wars

Food Wars is essentially an anime about cooking, except that it’s done to an absurd degree. Just like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and HypMic, it features a very lovable cast. The plot follows the life of Yukihira Souma as he enters the best culinary school in Japan and tries to match the talents of the best cooks in the world with his wit and skill.

What I really like about it is that, once again, it’s pretty over the top, as much as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures or even more sometimes. And since it is a pretty long anime series, you can enjoy it thoroughly while waiting for the sixth part.

Dorohedoro is pretty out there. From the character design to the world-building and story, everything seems very over the top, but it does make sense and it’s really entertaining.

Dorohedoro is the story of a man with a lizard head, Kaiman, who is trying to find his real identity, accompanied by Nikaido, his friend. But during this search, he eventually ends up crossing people that he shouldn’t have. The villains from this anime are especially interesting, as they feel less like mere obstacles in the way of the protagonists and more like just people that are trying to do their own thing and who will punish those trying to stop them.

I really hope you will take the time and watch these anime as you are waiting for the next instalment of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. We have more articles about anime, if you want more recommendations.
