3 animations that will help you forget 2020

2020 seemed to be the longest and the shortest year of our lives at the same time somehow. We all are eager to just forget all about it and have a fresh start.

Here you have 3 animations to help you forget how awful this year was and bring you a bit of joy in the new year.

Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs

Now if you haven’t seen this film yet, you could be forgiven for thinking it’s one of those kids’ films that’s just for kids. You know, it’s like, there’s nothing in it for adults. This could not be further from the truth. I saw this film for the first time as an adult at university, and it is brilliant. It has some hilarious jokes, the animation is bright and beautiful, and its characters are completely unforgettable.

The story revolves around a young inventor who lives in a town where people only really eat sardines. He invents a machine that can produce incredible food from water vapor. And that is pretty ridiculous. But the film knows it and plays around with it, and it’s just a really fun watch.

Chicken Run

If you haven’t seen this film already, it is basically the first feature film from Aardman Studios, who did Wallace and Gromit. If you’ve seen this, but haven’t seen Wallace and Gromit, go and watch that too because it’s also fantastic. Essentially, it’s a story that revolves around some chickens that live on a farm.

They’re minding their own business, laying their eggs, and then suddenly the farmer’s wife decides it’s much more efficient for them to be made into chicken pies instead. So it’s essentially The Great Escape but with chickens. If that doesn’t sell it for you, I don’t know what will.

Yuri!!! On Ice

This anime is centered around disgraced Japanese figure skater Yuri, who ends up attracting his childhood idol Viktor as a coach for the new skating season. The show is beautifully animated, with new skating routines in almost every episode.

One of the reasons why it’s been getting so much attention is the relationship between Viktor and Yuri, which is a romantic one. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there are some great plot twists that make this just a really fun, sweet, romantic ice-skating anime.
