If you’re like me, chances are you grew up reading fantasy series like Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings. Fantasy books – and movies – have been a lifelong passion of mine, and I know I’m not the only one. Here, I made a list of 3 fantasy book series that I think everyone should check out – they’re sure to make you fall in love with them:
The Witcher
You’ve probably heard of The Witcher series already. It’s gained a lot of popularity in the last couple of years, ever since the Netflix adaptation came out, but it was highly appreciated even before that, partially due to the videogame adaptations that have been produced after the series.
The Witcher series tells the story of Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher (monster hunter) and his quest to travel a continent full of perils in order to kill monsters and protect Princess Cirilla, his Child Surprise, who is being hunted by the entire continent for her magical powers. It’s a story of adventure, magic and unexpected turns that will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time, and if you enjoy the books you can go one step further and watch the show and play the videogames – you won’t be disappointed.
The Kane Chronicles
If you’re a fan of Rick Riordan’s classic Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series, The Kane Chronicles will be right up your alley. Another one of Riordan’s series, The Kane Chronicles tells the story of Carter and Sadie, the children of an Egyptologist who embark on a magical journey that reveal a hidden truth about their family – one that has to do with Egyptian mythology.
His Dark Materials
His Dark Materials is a series that many people mightn’t have heard of, even though it already has two on-screen adaptations: the 2007 movie The Golden Compass and the 2019 TV series His Dark Materials.
His Dark Materials take place in a dictatorial theocratic society from an alternate dimension. It focuses on Lyra, a young girl who has the gift of being able to read an alethiometer – a truth teller that helps her travel between dimensions. Full of unexpected twists and turns, His Dark Materials is an enjoyable read full of brilliant characters that now has a sequel as well, and you’re sure to fall in love with Pullman’s universe.
