After a challenging year for the movie industry, the situation seems to be back on track. Long-awaited sequels, superhero movies, beloved animations, and many more are coming to our screens sooner than you think! Here’s a list of 2021 new movie releases that will make the pandemic more bearable!

1. Zack Snyder’s Justice League: March 18th on HBO Max

Bruce Wayne assembles a team of superheroes to defend the Earth from dark forces who threaten the Earth. Will the metahumans answer his call? Will Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg be able to stand up against Darkseid and Steppenwolf? Be sure to tune in for a monumental war and unlikely alliances.

2.Godzilla vs. Kong: March 31st on HBO Max

Two legendary monsters collide in this new installment directed by Adam Wingard. Previously known as guardians of the world, the giants now turn against each other, threatening to destroy it. What’s the reason behind this war? Are you team Godzilla or team Kong? Stay tuned to see who is going to win!

3. Cruella: May 28th

We all remember Cruella, the menace that wanted to turn the 101 Dalmatians into fur coats. Now, it’s her turn to shine. This villain origin story shows us Cruella (Emma Stone) as a misunderstood fashion designer with a penchant for cruelty and fancy clothes. Despite Stone’s unexpectedly lovely British accent, I don’t find the concept intriguing enough, but to each their own!

4. Top Gun – Maverick: July 2nd

Are you ready for the nostalgia? Although the trailer doesn’t give much away, we can surely tell that Captain Maverick (Tom Cruise) is back as a US army flight instructor. Decades after his training days, he’s ready to share his tricks with a new generation. According to the IMDb page, Val Kilmer might reprise his role as Iceman, but that remains to be seen.

5. Black Widow: July 9th

The prequel we were all waiting for is finally coming out this year. Black Widow has always been a mystery, and now it’s her time to tell her story. We will get to know her family and life back in Russia, how she became a highly trained assassin and what keeps her up at night.
I have to admit; I’m hyped about this movie release because Black Widow has a complicated backstory that deserves the limelight. The cast also looks promising, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour starring alongside Scarlett Johansson.

6. Suicide Squad II: August 6th on HBO Max

Good news: the trailer dropped Friday, 26th March! It shows us a bunch of characters from the first movie (Harley Quinn, Rick Flagg, Captain Boomerang, Amanda Waller) and new ones such as Bloodsport (played by Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena). Even though the plot is mainly a mystery, I feel like it will be a chaotic, violent movie, and I’m here for it! There are many great names in the cast that I am eager to see – or discover amongst explosions and fight scenes.

7. Peter Rabbit 2 The Runaway: August 7th

Who’s ready for a delightful family-friendly adventure?
Now that Thomas and Bea are married, Peter feels there is no place left for him and his rabbit family. Therefore, he takes all his furry friends on an adventure in the city. What starts as a fun trip to the farmers market turns into chaos, so the humans must intervene to save the day – or make it worse.

8. The King’s Man: August 20th

Matthew Vaughn returns as the director of the third Kingsman installment. This movie is actually a prequel, depicting the early days of the British secret agency. Although we have a new story, a 19th-century set, and a different cast, I am eager to discover its subject. I loved the previous movies, and I have great expectations from The King’s Man. I trust we’ll get mind-blowing fight scenes and fantastic acting (especially with such a stellar cast!).

9. Death on the Nile: September 17th

Based on the novel by acclaimed author Agatha Christie, the movie focuses on a murder that takes place in Egypt. While on a cruise, Hercule Poirot investigates an heiress’s tedious death and uncovers the passengers’ secrets. Get ready for an old-fashioned, suspenseful whodunit mystery that will keep you at the edge of your seat!

10. Venom II – Let There Be Carnage: September 24th

Now that’s more like it! Nothing tops a fight between powerful non-human entities, right? Directed by Andy Serkis, the second Venom installment shows the anti-hero fighting against another sadistic symbiote, Carnage. His apparition was teased at the end of the first movie, and the role is indeed played by Woody Harrelson. Will Eddie Brock (Tom Hary) survive the encounter? I just wanna add that I strongly empathize with Venom’s cooking aptitudes.

11. Dune: October 1st on HBO Max

The much-awaited Frank Herbert movie adaptation is finally here! This movie is a treat for SF fans and not only. The trailer looks promising, depicting foreign planets and cultures which clash with one another. From what I’ve gathered, the movie tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who sets to take control over the Empire.

12. No Time to Die: October 8th

The latest Bond movie starring Daniel Craig presents the former agent against an enigmatic villain called Safin (Rami Malek). Rumor has it that No time to die is Craig’s last run as the legendary spy, but we don’t know anything sure about the next movie. Better enjoy our James Bond adventure while we can!

13. The Addams Family II: October 8th

The beloved weird family comes back this year with another grisly adventure. We don’t have much information about the plot. Still, the fans (including myself) are waiting to meet our favorite characters again. I suppose the previous animation cast will reprise their roles, and I have absolutely no complaints about that!

14. Mission Impossible 7: November 19th.

The filming is still undergoing, so we don’t know much about the plot yet, but keep an eye out for Ethan Hunt’s latest mission.

15. Spider-Man. No Way Home: December 17th

The official trailer isn’t available yet, but we know that Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei will reprise their roles from the previous Spider-Man movie. Jamie Foxx will join the cast as Electro and Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange.

16. The Matrix 4: December 22nd on HBO Max

Good news for Neo’s fans! The fourth movie, directed by Lana Wachowski, is set to premiere at the end of the year if everything goes well. I know that we all want to see more of Keanu Reeves, so this news is more than welcome.

The list of 2021 new movie releases will be updated as soon as trailers and new information become available.
